New katana in the sword gallery

I have just posted a new blade in the sword gallery. It is a mumei katana in good polish and shirasaya with a fine two-piece gold-foil habaki. The photos don't do the hamon justice (it is always easier to bring out the hada than the hamon when photographing a long blade). The nioi deki hamon is very clear and distinct and filled with activity in ko nie.

The taper from machi to kisaki along with the fairly deep sori makes me think late koto. The blade has a nice feel in the hand and seems a little light for a shinto piece. On the other hand, the blade has not been polished down at all and is very healthy. There is no difference in width between the nakago and the body of the blade at the machi.

All in all, an interesting blade.
